With globalization and striking changes particularly in such areas as technology and science, all domains of life have inevitably undergone a transformation, and today the whole world has become “nothing but a global village”. This new world necessitates World Citizenship Education (WCE) which aims to cultivate learners of all ages who make an active and committed contribution  in order to build more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies. To raise their students as world citizens who can think critically, function effectively and positively in the rapidly changing world, offering WCE inset to teachers has become crucial.

The WCE training was piloted with pre-service EFL teachers studying at a state university and revised/modified for the in-service EFL teachers who want to learn about WCE, WCE frameworks, WCE-related topics, WCE-based lesson plans and implementations for language classrooms. Organized around the WCE framework set by the UNESCO and OXFAM, the training provides not only theoretical knowledge base but also experiential learning opportunities for the in-service EFL teachers. The participating teachers will gain an understanding of what WCE and WCE-related topics by examining sample lesson plans and producing WCE implementation plans for their own educational context. The program aims to equip the teachers with required knowledge, attitude, and skills both to be able to be a world citizen on a personal level and to professionally educate their students to have these values.
