Program Introduction

The demands on educators are rapidly changing, making them require more sophisticated and broader competencies than ever before. The ubiquitous use of digital devices and the responsibility of helping students become digitally competent require educators to develop their own digital competency. DigCompEdu is a scientifically sound background framework which helps to guide policy and can be directly adapted to implementing regional and national tools and training programs. In the current teacher training program, English language teachers will be equipped with teacher digital competences required for the 21st century. In doing so, they will not only embrace theoretical knowledge of skills but also put their knowledge into practice by using, adapting and developing digital language learning materials. Furthermore, they will learn how to manage their content and share their creations to their local drives, websites and learning management systems including EBA. Their teacher digital competence progress will be closely monitored, and external help will be continuously provided. More details are presented below.

Training Duration:
This training consists of 6 sessions in total and will be completed in 6 weeks. The online sessions will start at 17.00 and finish at 19.00 with 15 minutes of break.

Training Delivery:
The sessions will be conducted fully online.

Assignment Procedure:

During the training, theoretical information will be provided in the first part of the sessions, while digital exercises will be conducted in the second part to put learned theoretical knowledge into practice. The digital exercises done in the sessions in certain weeks will be completed by the participants individually, in pairs or in groups. Assignments will be given on a learning management system.

Course Content and Flow:

The teachers participating in this training will have the opportunity to develop teacher digital competencies within the framework called DigCompEdu developed by the European Union. In this regard, the following main and sub-skills will form the syllabus of the program.

Session 1: Professional Engagement (Organisational Communication, Professional Collaboration, Reflective Practice, Digital CPD)

Session 2: Digital Resources (Selecting digital resources, Creating and modifying digital resources, Managing, protecting and sharing digital resources)

Session 3: Teaching and Learning (Teaching, Guidance, Collaborative Learning, Self-regulated Learning)

Session 4: Assessment (Assessment Strategies, Feedback & planning, Analysing evidence)

Session 5: Empowering Learners (Accessibility & inclusion, Differentiation & Personalization, Actively Engaging Learners)

Session 6: Facilitating Learners’ Digital Competence (Information & media literacy, Communication, Content creation, Responsible use, Problem Solving)

Who should enroll to this training;

All English teachers who want to improve their digital competencies in the rapidly changing and developing world of education and gain both theoretical and practical experience in this direction should enroll to this training. In addition, English teachers who want to develop their own activities and materials in digital environments should take part in this training.

Materials and tools to be used in the training:

All the tools and materials to be used in our training will be completely digital and will not require any fee. Each participant must have a good internet connection, a desktop/laptop computer and a camera.

Certificate:

A “Digital Participation Certificate” will be granted to participants who follow the training regularly and complete their projects throughout the process.

Training Procedure:

Prior to the training, teachers will be surveyed in order to determine their current level of teacher digital competence. In accordance with the level determined, the program syllabus will be slightly adjusted. After the training is completed, remote digital support will continue to be provided to teachers who wish so.

* Since our training is a certified training, it is obligatory to attend the training unless a valid excuse is given after the main list is formed.
