PHILOSOPHICAL INQUIRY (P4C) THROUGH STORYTELLING AND DRAMA:

A MULTIDIMENSIONAL APPROACH TO ELT

Introduction

‘Approaches and Methods in Language Teaching’ is a must course in every single ELT department in our country. In this course, we are taught that it all started with the Grammar-Translation Method, then evolved to Communicative and Task-Based Language Teaching and that Eclectic Method is the final trend. However, when we graduate and start working with real students at real schools, most of us find ourselves struggling with the system and trying hard to avoid going back to the primitive grammar and translation-based methodology.

In this 10-session program, you will experience a fresh multidimensional approach to language teaching named “Philosophical Inquiry (P4C) through Storytelling and Drama”. This is a program developed by the trainer herself.

Duration & Delivery

The program includes 10 two-hour sessions. The group will meet face-to-face on Mondays and Thursdays between 17:00-19:00. The first session will be on May 4, 2023, and the last session on June 5, 2023.

Course Content & Flow

The teachers participating in this program will learn about a modern blended approach to language teaching through firsthand experience. Each session will have a theme and a creative combination of drama, storytelling and P4C. At the end of the program, the teachers will be quite confident about using those techniques one-by-one or in a blended format.

Who should enroll in this program?

Primary, Secondary, High School and Prep School English teachers who wish to improve the oral skills of their learners and who wish to bring a fresh air to their classrooms are welcome to attend this program.

Materials and tools to be used during the program

The materials to be used during the training will be provided by the trainer weekly.

Certificate

A “Digital Participation Certificate” will be granted to the participants who actively participate in all the sessions (except for serious excuses).

Training Procedure

This is an applied program, and all the participants are expected to take active part in all the activities. The participants will be interviewed individually twice, once before the program and once after the program, by the trainer. The qualitative data collected from the interviews will solely be used for academic purposes.
